This week, it was all about where you are physically and the importance of going out as a designer more so than not.

Whether it be researching at a library or going completely in without a clue in the world how to do something, it's better to just give it your full physical effort.

I think as a designer and especially one whose shunned myself somewhat as a remote designer this was the wake up call that I needed. There's been long periods of time when I just would toss it up to 'oh I was working' or I would be stuck in my way's of being a remote on-call artist. Lacking in the social aspects, ability to go, move and feel. These day's I just touch my mouse and not much else. I believe it's time I dabble into the unknown more so, expand my designer horizon a bit. Sam surely inspired me to do so.

Lecture

This week's lecture goes on to bring similar messages. Sam's dylexsic, much like my twin brother, so I completely understand where he's coming from.

That need to be in an area other than a screen makes sense. Reading words all day would drive anybody insane. To have variety not only in your work but also in life makes a lot of sense.

Sam also brought on points of going into a task headfirst and just simply getting your hands dirty. As a self-starter, in my opinion, it's the best way to learn, and it's a sentiment that I preach but definitely need to do more of going forward. Not to mention his rules of working on a schedule even as a freelancer. There have been multiple occasions when client projects have gotten out of hand time-wise. I think having that feel of paper and writing it out firsthand instead of typing would help me personally fix that issue. I and many others rely too heavily on technology.

I mean, you see it these days with AI and such too. Balance is crucial within the design world. And Sam brought that to light for me.

Going forward I want to implement Sam's 4-point framework into my own work come to think of it..another self-task!

Research Task

Speaking of tasks, this week's research task was:

Create a mood board (using images and text) that conveys your perception of your local environment.
